My name is Matthew Burks and welcome to our family website for our team of Shire and Clydesdale horses. The Burks family have been involved with heavy horses for over 50 years, my father Jim Burks is a Shire Horse Society Councillor and has been on the Shire Horse Society judges panel for over 30 years. He has owned and bred Shire horses most of his life under the "Ancholmes" prefix, named after the river that flows by the family farm. We have been lucky enough to have qualified twice for prestigious Shire Horse of the Year final. I (Matthew) have been bought up with heavy horses and show under the "Matthews" prefix of Shire and Clydesdale horses. In 1997 I was the National Shire Horse Show Champion young handler and was also a qualifier for the Clydesdale young handler of the year. I am a Shire Horse Society council member, being elected in March 2007 and am one of the youngest serving councillors at this time, where I also serve on the marketing and development committee. I also serve on the Shire Horse Society, Clydesdale Horse Society and British Percheron Horse Society judging panels. I also serve on the committee for the newly formed Heavy Horse Turnout Society. We occasionally have horses for sale. See our for sale page or contact us with your requirements. We also sell flights and plaits, pig oil, etc and are pleased to help any newcomers in to the world of heavy horses and showing them.
