Speed Strength” by Joel Smith is one of the most thought-provoking physical training books I have read in the last few years. The most unique feature of this book is its presentation of a comprehensive year-round program to develop all the essential building blocks of speed.

The aim needs to be on developing the required physical abilities and then using them so that the gains can be transferred into an improved running action. I have a ton of running books and I can’t really recommend any of them highly (I’m not a hurdles guy btw) except Charlie’s Training for Speed (and GPP DVD) and Bosch’s “Running”… Rip out the practical/applied section of Bosch’s book though. I would have expected more hands-on advice on workouts and drills for developing the different aspects of sprinting.

Michael Yessis, a renowned fitness expert, explains in this breakthrough book how strength and kinesiology play an important part in improving time and distance. So much time is wasted bringing people together for meetings that usually end with just a list of bullet points.
